Falcons, Julio Jones reportedly agree to massive five-year extension (Shutdown Corner)

The Atlanta Falcons and Julio Jones reportedly have come to an agreement on a five-year contract extension, first reported by MMQB’s Peter King . ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported the financial terms first — five years, $71.25 million, with $47 million of it guaranteed. Those numbers exceed the deals signed by franchise-tagged receivers Dez Bryant (five years, $70M, $45 guaranteed) and Demaryius Thomas (five years, $70M, $43.5M) earlier this summer. [ Yahoo Sports Fantasy Football: Sign up and join a league today! ] That would make Jones the second-highest paid receiver in the NFL behind the Detroit Lions’ Calvin Johnson in terms of guaranteed money and average salary per year. Jones has been injury-prone over his four-year career, missing 15 of 64 regular-season games. But he’s the active NFL leader — over even Johnson — at 88.4 receiving yards per game. Last season was Jones’ best, catching 104 passes for 1,593 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games.
