Well, now the Pro Bowl is just a one-score game. After two fourth-quarter field goals by Detroit’s Matt Prater, who replaced Atlanta’s Matt Bryant with the Falcons kicker heading to the Super Bowl, the NFC trails just 20-13. Andy Reid is pulling out all the stops.

Take that! Matt Prater one-ups Justin Tucker’s field-goal bomb at Pro Bowl (Shutdown Corner)

The Pro Bowl has a little added juice this year, it seems — at least leading up to the game. Check out Detroit Lions kicker Matt Prater here, as he posted a video of him attempting a 76-yard field goal a few days after Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker nailed one in practice from 75. “I’m gonna try to one-up you,” Prater said, as he lined up for the kick.

Bob Quinn regrets something he said as rookie GM with Lions (The Associated Press)

Bob Quinn regrets something he said as a rookie general manager with the Detroit Lions. When he was hired a year ago, Quinn told reporters he would have ”zero tolerance” for players with a history of domestic violence or dangerous weapons. Charles had been sentenced to a diversion program after being arrested in 2014 for waving a gun at another driver several times during a road-rage incident in Kentucky.

Seahawks’ Wilson ‘feeling fast’ without knee brace (AFP)

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, prepping for an NFL playoff showdown with the Falcons in Atlanta on Saturday, says he’s feeling good after ditching his knee brace last weekend. “It felt great,” said Wilson, who played without the brace on his left knee in a first-round playoff win over the Detroit Lions last weekend. “I’ve been practising the past five or six weeks without it, so my legs have been feeling really good,” Wilson said.

Lions limp to finish after strong run put them in playoffs (The Associated Press)

The Detroit Lions were not a popular pick to reach the playoffs when the 2016 season began. After winning eight of nine games midway through the season, Detroit (9-8) earned a spot in the postseason. The Lions, though, spoiled their season by losing the last three games of the regular season and first place in the NFC North and then by getting beat 26-6 at Seattle in an NFC wild-card game to extend the franchise’s postseason losing streak to nine games over 25 years.

The cool story behind Earl Thomas’s fancy Russian cap (Shutdown Corner)

Injured Seahawk Earl Thomas stalked the sidelines Saturday night as Seattle throttled the Detroit Lions, and he looked damn fine doing so. The Seattle Times brings us the story of Thomas’s cap, which reads, in Cyrillic: “Restricted Air Space. Restricted by Earl Thomas.” It was a gift from a group of Seahawks fans calling themselves the “Russian Sea Hawkers,” scattered across nations including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Germany and the Czech Republic, fans who gather via social media to listen to and watch Seahawks games in the middle of the night.

Revenge of the Hail Mary propels Packers over Giants (Reuters)

(The Sports Xchange) – The Green Bay Packers beat the New York Giants 38-13 on Sunday thanks in no small measure to a Hail Mary touchdown that provided sweet revenge. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who shocked the Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals with end-of-game Hail Mary touchdowns last season, stunned the Giants with a 42-yard Hail Mary touchdown to Randall Cobb on the final play of the first half of Sunday’s NFC wild card playoff game at frigid Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
