Lions UDFA De’Quan Hampton nicknamed ‘Mega-Quan’ for exploits as wide receiver

Hampton caught just 22 passes in 2 seasons at USC but, at 6-feet-4 and 225 pounds, he has the size to play NFL wide receiver De’Quan Hampton might be the most freakishly gifted of all the undrafted free agents the Detroit Lions are bringing to rookie minicamp this weekend, but five years ago no one – not even Hampton – would have predicted he’d be on an NFL roster. Nicknamed “Mega-Quan” for his junior-college exploits as a 6-foot-4, 225-pound receiver, Hampton caught all of two passes as a senior in high school. He played primarily as a tight end and pulling offensive tackle in a wing-T offense at Compton (Cal.) Dominguez High, and when he walked onto the football team at Los Angeles Harbor College
