Short-yardage issues have cost Lions dearly

If there was an easy way for the Detroit Lions to solve their issues near the goal line, they probably would have done it by now. Instead, those problems have the Lions falling behind in the playoff race. Despite three second-half opportunities inside the Pittsburgh 10-yard line, Detroit was held without a touchdown in a 20-15 loss Sunday night.

Maurkice Pouncey rips Lions’ D-line for breaking unwritten rule

The Detroit Lions' defensive line broke an unwritten NFL rule Sunday when it fired off the ball on a kneel-down play, said? Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey, who was incensed by the play one day after Pittsburgh's 20-15 victory at Ford Field. With 48 seconds left in regulation, the Steelers were downing the ball to run out the clock when tackles A'Shawn Robinson and Akeem Spence appeared to attack the Steelers' interior line.

World Series Game 5 Ratings Beat Declining ‘Sunday Night Football’ As Astros & Steelers Win

There was a lot of All Out War action on the second episode of The Walking Dead’s eighth season last night, but the real-life drama was on a tight Sunday Night Football and the roller coaster of a Game 5 in the 2017 World Series. Just like they were back in 2016, the two games were up against each other with the Pittsburgh Steelers beating the Detroit Lions 20-15 last night and the Houston Astros taking a 3-2 lead in the series with a late night 13-12 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. A baseball result that sees the Texas team heading back to LA for Game 6 on Halloween.

Steelers can relax a bit after outlasting Lions

For much of the second half, it felt like the Pittsburgh Steelers were just holding on, trying to make it to their bye week before the Detroit Lions could reach the end zone. Afterward, Ben Roethlisberger and his teammates could relax a bit. The Steelers made one big play offensively – a 97-yard touchdown pass from Roethlisberger to JuJu Smith-Schuster in the third quarter – and that was enough for a 20-15 victory Sunday night.

Steelers lean on D, Smith-Schuster in 20-15 win over Lions

JuJu Smith-Schuster made an inside move like a veteran and used his young legs to do the rest. The rookie receiver scored on a 97-yard touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger late in the third quarter, and the Pittsburgh Steelers forced the Detroit Lions to turn the ball over on downs twice in a 20-15 win Sunday night. Smith-Schuster, selected No. 62 overall out of Southern California, had season highs with seven receptions for 193 yards.

Lions get close but can’t reach end zone against Steelers

No matter what the Detroit Lions did near the goal line, it turned out badly. Detroit's 20-15 loss Sunday night included three crucial second-half possessions by the Lions inside the Pittsburgh 10-yard line. On two of them, Detroit failed to score at all, and on one, the Lions settled for a field goal.
